I want to be a Funeral Director

Hayley Clow may be a familiar name to many FSJ readers. She’s been answering the telephones at Coleman Milne’s Westhoughton head office over the last 12 months, filling in for receptionist Donna, who’s been on maternity leave.
When she took up the role, Hayley had every intention of going to university to study forensic science. However, the experience of dealing with funeral directors every day has prompted a change of heart – and of career aspiration. Hayley now wants to join the funeral profession and become a funeral director herself.
“I think people’s perception of funeral directors is generally that they are a morbid group and when I joined Coleman Milne, I had some trepidation about dealing with them,” she said.
“What I found was exactly the opposite. Meeting funeral directors every day and talking to them about their job and how they got into the profession has increased my admiration for the job they perform. They can make such a difference to people who are dealing with bereavement. I love working with people and looking after them; I always want to help and I realise that this is a career I’d love to get into. I believe I would really enjoy the challenge.”
Hayley lives in Bolton and is particularly interested in finding a funeral arranger role in the Greater Manchester area. She herself left a big impression on the team at Coleman Milne. Sales and Marketing Director Geoff Hudson (shown here presenting Hayley with a “thank you” gift for her contribution) is keen to help her get her new career off the ground.
“Hayley has been excellent in her role, even covering customer services for a couple of weeks,” he said. “She fitted in seamlessly, displaying a maturity beyond her years. She would be an asset to any business.”
