NE Downing Funeral Directors, a distinguished family-run business based in Brierley Hill, West Midlands, is proud to announce the latest addition to its fleet – the new Mercedes 213 plug-in hybrid vehicles. The new fleet comprises two hearses and four limousines, showcasing the company’s commitment to providing environmentally friendly and state-of-the-art funeral services.
For four generations, NE Downing Ltd. has been a pillar of support for families in times of crisis and loss, serving communities in the West Midlands and the wider Black Country area. The company’s roots trace back to Vicarage Road in Blackheath and have since expanded to encompass seven branches, solidifying its presence and dedication to the local community.
In a poignant moment, a picture captures the new Mercedes Hearse standing alongside the Morris Oxford Hearse, which holds significant historical value. The Morris Oxford Hearse was originally purchased brand new in 1970 from Coleman Milne and was first used at a funeral organized by Norman Downing, marking an important chapter in the company’s history.
The Morris Oxford Hearse was faithfully retained by NE Downing Funeral Directors for 14 years before being sold to a firm in Forest Deane. Serendipitously, Stephen Downing, while conducting online research, stumbled upon the vehicle, which was on the brink of participating in banger racing. Recognizing the sentimental value, the Downings decided to rescue and restore their old Hearse.
The restoration project encompassed a comprehensive overhaul, from the engine to the chrome work, ensuring that the Morris Oxford Hearse was brought back to its former glory. This nostalgic addition to the NE Downing fleet pays homage to the company’s rich heritage and commitment to preserving its legacy.
NE Downing Funeral Directors remains dedicated to providing compassionate and professional funeral services, blending tradition with innovation. The introduction of the new Mercedes 213 plug-in hybrid fleet reflects the company’s forward-thinking approach, combining modern technology with a deep respect for tradition.
